MRRJ Main Release Destinations

Meherrin River Regional Jail Main is an adult regional jail and the primary MRRJ intake and booking site. Its custody movements cover more than community release. A person may leave on bond or recognizance while a case remains pending, complete time served, reach sentence expiration, or leave under probation or parole terms. The jail can also move someone to court, the Virginia Department of Corrections, another local jail, medical custody, federal custody, or another responsible authority.

Each movement must be named precisely. A transfer to VADOC, another jail, the U.S. Marshals Service, or immigration custody is still custody. A court trip also does not establish release. When MRRJ's current roster no longer shows the person, use the regional custody-movement or release entry to learn the type and destination. Until then, “no longer shown on the current roster” is more accurate than saying the person is free.

Confirm an MRRJ Main Release

Use the official MRRJ “Current Offenders” route for the first online check. It is a current-custody tool. The research did not verify a public historical window, an “include released” control, or a published update schedule in the live interface. An empty search therefore cannot prove community release. Verify identity with a full name and other known facts, and stop if more than one plausible match remains.

1. Open the current-offender search through MRRJ's official website. Search the exact name and compare any displayed identifiers.
2. If a current result appears, treat it as current MRRJ custody unless the displayed record states something more specific.
3. If no result appears, check Virginia VINELink for the same person and event. A release or transfer alert still needs destination confirmation.
4. Ask MRRJ Records for the existing booking, custody-movement, or release entry showing date, time, type, and destination.
5. Use the Dinwiddie court docket for the judicial reason, then check VADOC if state responsibility is a possible destination.

The official landing page points to the correct regional authority. It should not be replaced with Riverside Regional Jail, which does not serve Dinwiddie.

A VADOC match, for example, can support a state transfer or active supervision, but it does not replace the MRRJ record of how the regional episode ended.

The Main Facility and regional records office are in Alberta, Virginia. Use the main number for immediate custody and movement questions. For durable proof, request the existing record from the MRRJ FOIA officer. The regional jail, not the Dinwiddie Sheriff alone, controls MRRJ booking and release records.

No official source states routine community-release hours, a public exit door, a family waiting point, or a property-return schedule. The jail's address and phone are published, but those details do not establish when or where a specific person will emerge. Call the independently obtained main number before making travel plans. The official MRRJ FOIA page controls current request routing.

Get MRRJ Release Records

Ask for existing records tied to one named custody episode. Helpful identifiers include booked name and aliases, date of birth if known, approximate booking range, arresting jurisdiction, case number, and booking number. Request the booking or intake sheet plus any custody-status, movement, release, or disposition entry that shows the actual date and time, movement type, and destination or receiving agency. If needed, include the adult booking photograph maintained for that episode.

Virginia FOIA generally requires a response within five working days, with added time allowed in stated circumstances. MRRJ may produce records, redact or withhold part under an exemption, state that no responsive record exists, or invoke a lawful extension. FOIA does not force the jail to conduct an investigation, answer questions, or create a custom release list.

Charges may reflect actual access, search, supplies, and duplication costs. No fixed MRRJ release-record or booking-photo fee was found. Ask for an advance estimate, prefer electronic copies, and narrow the date range. When information is withheld, ask for the cited legal basis and reasonably segregable nonexempt portions.

Record the time of every online and phone check. A current roster can change between checks, while a written movement entry preserves the agency's recorded event. When MRRJ and a receiving system disagree, provide each custodian with the identifiers and retrieval dates. Do not silently select one date. The conflict itself may show a processing lag, correction, or mismatch that needs agency review.

MRRJ Main Regional Role

MRRJ opened July 1, 2012, for Brunswick, Dinwiddie, and Mecklenburg Counties. The Main Facility in Alberta includes intake and booking. It is operated by the Meherrin River Regional Jail Authority, not as a Dinwiddie Sheriff long-stay jail. A Dinwiddie arrest may start at the county lockup and then become a regional MRRJ episode after transport.

The regional structure explains both the out-of-county location and the correct records custodian. It also prevents a common error: searching only facilities physically inside Dinwiddie County.

MRRJ Main Release Logistics

The Main Facility is in rural Alberta, outside Dinwiddie County. Its directions page gives the physical address, but official sources do not state a release gate, waiting area, pickup policy, regular release hour, or bus stop. Reviewed transit material did not establish that Dinwiddie Express serves the jail. No arrival or transport promise should be inferred from a regional route map.

Call MRRJ before travel and ask only for information staff can provide about the named person's status and approved logistics. A projected event can change because of court processing, another hold, paperwork, transportation, or a receiving authority. The absence of a published hour does not mean releases never occur at a certain time. It means there is no verified general schedule to quote.

Be cautious with payment demands. MRRJ has warned that callers sought money for a GPS device said to be required for pretrial release, while the jail states that staff will not make that demand. End the incoming call and verify through the published main number. A legitimate custody record should not depend on paying an unknown caller.

Pickup planning should follow confirmed status, not rumor or an anticipated court result. A bond order can precede administrative processing, and another valid hold can prevent exit. Likewise, a transfer notice can occur before the receiving locator updates. Ask which agency has custody now, then use that agency's published contact channel.

MRRJ Release Authority History

Research Section 19, Angle L explains why regional records stay with MRRJ. The three-county Authority has local participation from Dinwiddie's administrative, sheriff, and governing-body representatives, yet the Authority remains the custodian for regional booking and release records. This division has existed since the regional jail opened and the county stopped operating a conventional long-term jail.

Do not merge two episodes into one based on name alone. Preserve each booking number, court number, date range, and agency. When records conflict, contact both custodians and state the discrepancy. A matched sequence is stronger than any single current search result.

Dinwiddie Lockup to MRRJ

Research Section 19, Angle A adds the two-stage trail. The Sheriff may document a local intake and transport, while MRRJ documents the regional admission and later movement. For a person who passed through both, compare the Sheriff's destination entry with the MRRJ booking entry. The Dinwiddie County Lockup release records are the sibling source for that local first stage.

Leaving the lockup is not proof of community release. The Sheriff's record can show a transport to Alberta, and the MRRJ record can then show the later release type or another transfer. Confirm both movements before stating where custody ended.
