Contacts

This is a private reference site, not a Dinwiddie County or Virginia government office. We cannot confirm whether someone is in custody, authorize or carry out a release, accept bond, or retrieve an official booking or release record. Contact the government office responsible for the specific custody episode.

Choose the Correct Records Office

A Dinwiddie arrest can create records at more than one agency. The Sheriff handles the short-term Dinwiddie County Lockup and local custody movement. Meherrin River Regional Jail, often shortened to MRRJ, keeps the regional booking and release record after admission. VADOC holds state-prison and active state-supervision records. Use the contact that matches the event instead of asking one office to speak for another.

Use the Sheriff for a local intake, a release that occurred before MRRJ admission, a transfer from the lockup, or a local booking photograph if one was created and maintained. The Sheriff’s FOIA officer is Major William Knott at wknott@dinwiddieva.us. Written requests use the same PO Box and main telephone number.

Use VADOC for a state-responsible prisoner, time-computation question, state release document, or active community-supervision record. A Dinwiddie arrest alone does not make VADOC the custodian. Confirm that the person entered state responsibility before asking VADOC to resolve the record.

District 7 is the field-supervision contact for Dinwiddie County. Call to verify the responsible office for an active probation or parole matter because an assignment can change. The Virginia Parole Board, not District 7, decides parole grants, denials, and revocations.
